BIODEGRADABLE CAMP SOAP, SCRUBBER & GRAYWATER STRAINER
[ ] CampSuds Soap
[ ] Dual-Sided Scrub Sponge
[ ] Mesh Sink Strainer Basket

  • CampSuds Soap: the owner's named product. Follow the label for how much to use, and check that it is meant for camp use.
  • Dual-Sided Scrub Sponge: a soft side for pots and a rougher side for stuck-on food. Avoid the rough side on seasoned cast iron.
  • Mesh Sink Strainer Basket: fine mesh catches food bits. Pick one that packs flat.
  1. Soap stays away from water. Even soap labeled biodegradable can harm lakes and streams. Wash and rinse at a distance from water. Leave No Trace gives a distance for this, and your park may ask for more. See lnt.org and check current local rules.
  2. Strain every drop. Food bits attract animals. Strain the water, pack the scraps out and scatter the water in a wide spread.
  3. Keep a clean camp. Wash dishes soon after you eat, store food and trash as the park directs and leave no smell behind.

Gear types only.

  • Concentrated biodegradable camp soap
  • Dual-sided scrub sponge, scour on one side
  • Mesh sink strainer or collapsible strainer basket
  • Collapsible wash basin
  • Wild Dirt drinkware, so you can stay hydrated while you clean up (drinkware category)

Rules on washing, graywater and soap near water vary by park, forest and state. Some places require you to carry graywater out. Check current local rules with the land manager, nps.gov, fs.usda.gov, blm.gov or your state park site. For method, see lnt.org.

A clean camp is a quiet camp. Strain it, scatter it and leave the water as you found it. Built by explorers, for places worth keeping.
