FRAME BAG PACKING, ROUTE NAVIGATION & MOUNTS
[ ] Half-Frame Bag
[ ] Bar-Mount GPS Computer
[ ] Spare Shift Cable

  • Half-Frame Bag: sits in the front triangle. Measure the space before you buy, and check dropper post and suspension clearance.
  • Bar-Mount GPS Computer: a handlebar-mounted navigation device. Choose one with offline maps and a battery that suits your longest rides.
  • Spare Shift Cable: match the cable type and head to your shifters. Know how to feed it through before you need it.
  1. Keep the bike steerable. Do not hang heavy gear from the bars. A bag that rubs a cable or blocks the brake lever is a hazard. Check that every lever and cable moves freely with the bag on.
  2. Do not stare at the screen. Check your route at stops or at easy sections, and keep your eyes on the trail. Why it matters: a quick glance at rough ground can mean a crash.
  3. Have a backup for navigation. Batteries die and mounts fail. Carry a second map source, and know the way out to the nearest road.

Gear types only.

  • Frame bag sized to your bike
  • Handlebar GPS or phone mount
  • Offline map app or GPS computer
  • Power bank and short charging cable
  • Spare cable and basic tools
  • Wild Dirt headwear for sun and helmet liners (headwear category)

Trail access, bike rules and rules for e-bikes vary by park, forest and state. Check current local rules with the managing agency: nps.gov, fs.usda.gov, blm.gov or your state park website. Some areas limit handlebar devices or require bike lights after dark, so check your state or local law.

A well-packed bike disappears under you. Pack low, test the setup and ride on. Built by explorers, for the trail.
