HEAVY-DUTY CANVAS SOIL GLOVES & HAND TROWEL
[ ] Reinforced Work Gloves
[ ] Stainless Trowel
[ ] Pruning Shears
[ ] Kneeling Pad

  • Reinforced Work Gloves: the owner's spec. Reinforced palms and fingers last longer. Sizing varies by maker.
  • Stainless Trowel: the owner's spec. Stainless steel resists rust and wipes clean.
  • Pruning Shears: bypass shears make clean cuts on live stems. Use them only on material they are rated for.
  • Kneeling Pad: thick foam keeps you off wet, cold soil.
  1. Gloves and good footing. Wear gloves for digging and pruning, and keep your shoes closed. Soil can hide sharp objects, thorns and stinging insects.
  2. Respect the blades. Keep shears closed and locked when you are not cutting. Cut away from your body and never carry open blades.
  3. Know what is underground. Hand trowel digging is shallow. If you plan to dig deeper, such as for a tree or post, call 811 first to have buried utility lines marked. See call811.com.

Gear types only.

  • Canvas or leather-reinforced work gloves
  • Stainless steel hand trowel
  • Hand pruning shears
  • Foam kneeling pad
  • Wild Dirt clothing, comfortable and tough for outdoor work (clothing category)

Rules on digging, planting and removing plants differ for public land, community gardens and parks. On public land, do not dig or plant without permission. Check current local rules with the land manager, nps.gov, fs.usda.gov or your local garden group. Stay out of poison ivy and similar plants. See cdc.gov for guidance on poisonous plants.

Get your hands in the dirt and leave it better than you found it. Built by explorers, for growing things.
