COLD-WEATHER BATTERY INSULATION & HIGH-SPEED SD POUCH
[ ] Hand Warmers in Case
[ ] V90 UHS-II SD Cards
[ ] Waterproof Card Wallet
- Hand Warmers in Case: the owner's idea. Place the warmer next to the battery pouch, and follow the warmer's label.
- V90 UHS-II SD Cards: the owner's spec. Only useful if your camera supports that speed class, so check your manual.
- Waterproof Card Wallet: keeps cards organized and dry.
- Watch for cold injury, not just cold gear. Numb fingers, shivering or confusion mean it is time to warm up. See cdc.gov for current guidance. Why it matters: you can lose the shot, but you cannot lose your fingers or your core heat.
- Use hand warmers as the maker says. Do not put a chemical warmer directly against a battery or skin for a long time, and read the label.
- Plan for short days. Cold, early dark and wind move fast. Carry a headlamp and tell someone your plan.
Gear types only.
- Spare camera batteries
- Chemical or reusable hand warmers
- High-speed memory cards that match your camera
- Waterproof, crush-resistant card wallet
- Wild Dirt headwear for cold, still waits (headwear category)
Rules on access, closures, drones and photography permits vary by park and agency, and winter roads and areas may be closed. Check current local rules before you go. Start with nps.gov, fs.usda.gov, blm.gov or your state park website.
Warm batteries, backed-up cards and warm hands. Then wait for the light. Built by explorers, for the trail.
