[ ] Deep-Freeze Cooler
[ ] Reusable Gel Packs
[ ] Vacuum Insulated Cups
- Deep-Freeze Cooler: the owner's name for a rotomolded cooler. Check the maker's claims for how long it holds ice and whether the lid can bear weight.
- Reusable Gel Packs: they stay cold longer than loose ice and do not leave water. Do not eat or puncture them.
- Vacuum Insulated Cups: double-wall cups that keep drinks cold or hot. Check whether they are dishwasher safe.
- Keep it cold. The USDA recommends cold food at 40 degrees F or below. See foodsafety.gov for the current guidance and time limits.
- Keep it separate. Raw meat in sealed containers, below ready-to-eat food. Use a separate board and utensils for each.
- Keep it clean. Wash your hands before you eat. Wash the cooler and cups after each trip to stop mold and smells.
Gear types only.
- Rotomolded hard cooler with a gasket lid
- Reusable gel ice packs
- Vacuum insulated cups and tumblers
- Wild Dirt drinkware, built for the trail (drinkware category)
Parks and beaches may limit glass, alcohol or ice use, and some bear country areas have food storage rules. Check current local rules with the park, nps.gov, fs.usda.gov or your state park site. For food safety, see foodsafety.gov.
Cold drinks, safe food and a lid that stays shut. Built by explorers, for days that run long.
